OCEANMAN Swimming and Open Water Swimming Coach Certificate CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

We aim to ensure our qualifications are high quality and reflect the latest industry developments. This qualification has been designed to allow current Open Water swimmers, Swim Coaches, Teachers or Triathlon Coaches to build on their current skills and acquire specialist knowledge in delivering swimming and open water swimming sessions.

Purpose of the qualification

 

By the end of this qualification, you will have the skills needed to work as an open water swimming coach and swimming coach, and effectively and independently plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of open water and swimming training sessions, program management, high performance preparation, events organization, and safety assessment.

 

 The Qualification is structured in 2 Courses, Open Water Swimming Coach (5 modules + Final assignment) and Swimming Coach (4 modules + Final Assignment)

1-Online Swimming and Open Water Swimming  Coach Certification (Theory) 120 Hours

 2- Coaching Practice – Evidence provision for a total of 20 Coaching Hours. 

Total qualification time:  140 hours of Study

Structure of the qualification

The OCEANMAN Open Water Coach Qualification consists of the following learning outcomes and Content.

Modules 6 to 8 SWIMMING COACH CERTIFICATION BLOCK

COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO SWIMMING STROKES: TECHNIQUES, DRILLS, COMMON MISTAKES, AND MORE.

  • Understand the fundamentals of each swimming stroke, including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, and individual medley, with a focus on proper technique and form.
  • Identify common mistakes in swimming strokes and develop strategies to correct them through targeted drills and practice.
  • Learn flip turns and open turns to improve efficiency and speed during lap swimming.
  • Master breathing techniques essential for maintaining endurance and efficiency while swimming various strokes.
  • Explore training and conditioning methods tailored to enhance swimming performance and overall fitness levels.
  • Develop mental preparation strategies to optimize focus, motivation, and performance in competitive and recreational swimming settings.

COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO SWIMMING TEACHING TECHNIQUES AND PERFORMANCE COACHING

  • Introduce foundational teaching techniques focused on water comfort, breath control, floating, and basic strokes like freestyle and backstroke, ensuring students feel confident and safe in the water.

  • Evaluate the impact of learner-centered pedagogy on swimmer development, including increased motivation, engagement, and skill acquisition, contributing to long-term athlete development and high performance.
  • Explore the application of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques to high-performance swimmers, leveraging psychological strategies to optimize performance and achieve success in competitive swimming.

FREESTYLE SWIMMING VIDEO ANALYSIS

  • Understand the importance of video analysis in improving freestyle swimming technique, providing visual feedback for swimmers to identify areas for improvement.
  • Learn various video analysis techniques, including angle selection, playback speed adjustment, and comparison with ideal technique demonstrations, to effectively assess freestyle swimming performance.
  • Develop skills in identifying technique issues such as body position, arm mechanics, kick technique, and breathing coordination through detailed analysis of swimming footage.
  • Explore a range of drills specifically designed to address common mistakes and technical deficiencies identified through video analysis, targeting improvements in efficiency, speed, and overall stroke mechanics.
  • Practice applying video analysis techniques and implementing corrective drills in a hands-on learning environment, allowing for practical application and skill development.
  • Utilize references and resources to deepen understanding of freestyle swimming biomechanics, technique correction methods, and best practices in video analysis for continuous improvement in swimming performance.

Extra information about OCEANMAN ACADEMY

Entry requirements

  • Learners must be 16 years of age or older on the first day of the course and have experience of open water swimming.
  • Fluent in English
  • Experienced and Amateur swimmers

Progression

On completion of this qualification, you could work as a coach in an appropriate environment to develop your experience and knowledge within open water swimming.

Assessment

Assessment methods

You will be required to demonstrate the knowledge and understanding you have learnt through this qualification.

Grading

End of Module ‘Test Your Knowledge (20-60 Questions online, 80% pass rate required, Passing releases the next module)

Assignments

End of each Module will be an assignment to prepare and submit. Passing mark will be submitted, feedback will be provided to all students for each assignment.

After the completion of the 9 modules and the final assignments for both Open Water and Swimming parts will be required to be fully certified.

Registration

Upon registration with OCEANMAN Qualifications, you have 25 weeks to successfully complete the qualification. If you require an extension to your registration, please contact us. Please be aware that each individual case will be viewed on its own merits.
